The World of Work Virtual Expo Platform

I. Background

The World of Work was an on-going, in person exhibition that the Durban University of
Technology in partnership with Commerce and Industry, SETAs, Local and National Government,
State owned Enterprises, and associated Stakeholders present annually. Students and
Graduates get a unique opportunity to directly engage and interact with representatives from
the listed Institutions, prospective employers and stakeholders. The World of Work Expo is the premier stakeholder engagement of the Year in the calendar of the University.

Whilst Covid 19 has affected our lives in a profound way; it has also given us the opportunity to
think outside the box. With the restrictions being imposed on the entire world, in person events
such as these were prohibited. This is where OLUMS spearheaded the development and
implementation of the inaugural Virtual World of Work Expo 2020 commencing on Monday, 1 August and ending Friday, 6 August 2020.

II. How it Works

The Employers and SETAs are each allocated Virtual Stalls to exhibit promotional posters, marketing materials and videos to showcase their organizations to students and Graduates. Students and graduates have the unique opportunity to virtually visit the stalls and engage in conversations with the representatives of the prospective employers and SETAs via the platform. In this way students are exposed to leading employers and SETAs for their future placement requirements, and in turn the prospective employers and SETA’s have an opportunity to market themselves and interact amongst themselves. Employers and SETAs can conduct LIVE VIDEO presentations as per the Live Presentation Schedule that is pre-determined via the platform. Students and Employers can engage with each other via the Blogs in each stall.
